Game Changer: New Mercy Rule for Upcoming Season

Author: Brandon Crudele

A new ammendment to the rulebook has been made check out the details below:

  • After the conclusion of the second period, if a team finds themselves trailing by a margin of seven goals or more, they are presented with a decision: to continue or forfeit the game.
  • It is up to the trailing team coaching staff and players to determine if continuing the game is viable or if it is more strategic to conserve energy and or player morale.
  • This decision will be mutual between the coaching staff and players.
  • It is the captains' responsibility to speak for the team
  • If the mercy rule is made by the trailing team, the game officially ends. The final score and statistics up to this point are recorded as usual.

It is believed this rule will give more freedom to the players, while addressing the psychological challenges that could be faced through the season. Learning from previous mistakes allows us to make positive changes to the rules, such as these.
